My Students

Kindergarten was once a place where children went to socialize and learn through play experiences. Today's kindergarten looks very different, with the emphasis on academic achievement and very few opportunities for play. For some students, this can lead to boredom and behavior problems.

My students come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Some come to school with vast experiences and background knowledge, while others have had very limited educational experiences before entering kindergarten, and are unprepared for the high expectations of students entering school. However, all of these students combined are what makes my job the best job in the world! These little ones come to school excited and ready learn.

My Project

Last school year, I received 8 Hokki Stools through a Donors Choose.org grant. With only enough for less than half of the class, the students have to wait patiently for their turn to use them throughout the day & are not getting the full benefits of having them in our classroom.

Little ones need to be able to wiggle and move around throughout the school day without being a distraction to their peers and still be able to concentrate on their academic learning.

Many of my young students have had great difficulty sitting still for extended periods throughout the school day due to their young age. This project is inspired by their constant and endless energy!

The 2 additional stools that my students and I are requesting will provide enough Stools for half of the class to use at a time giving them more opportunities for alternative seating options that allow them to move while still doing their work and staying on task.

The Hokki Stools will provide students with an opportunity to remain sitting stationary while still allowing them to work out their restless energy exercise as they wiggle on the stools and balls. They will also encourage healthy posture, teach concentration, balance, and calm, all while keeping the body active and the brain engaged on the task at hand.
