Wiggle While you Learn

My Students

I teach first grade in a small farming town in Illinois. We have such a diverse students population. On one side of town, we have students who come from half-million-dollar homes and on the other side of town students who come from public-housing situations. 30% of our student population receives free and reduced price lunch and school fees. My goal for all my students is to give each and every one of them the SAME opportunity to learn with every advantage possible.

If I can accomplish one thing in the short time I have my students, it would be that know that I truly love and value them as individuals.

My Project

From the first day of school, we discuss how to choose a seat that will best fit your learning needs. It is so rewarding to see students choosing to sit on the stability balls because they truly benefit from the extra movement. However, my students would like to try a wobble stool and would like more stability balls. They would like a wobble stool so they can have more choices for how they learn best. This is so exciting to me! My students are not only learning about themselves as learners, but they too have seen the benefits and are begging for more! These extra items would give EVERY child in my class more opportunity to "wiggle" while they learn.

Your donation to this project will not only help my students activate more areas of their brain to increase learning, but you will be empowering students to learn more about how they learn.

Students will be able to take ownership over their learning, which is a skill to last their lifetime!
