My Students

I start each day by greeting my students at the door. I'm usually hollering cheers, greetings, and creating a general ruckus full of energy. I do this to match the energy my students are already bringing into the classroom. My students are caring, energetic, and imaginative. They crave relationships, both structure and flexibility, as well as movement.

My students are part of a school where over 60% receive free or reduced lunch but you would never know that unless told so.

They believe they can be their best. The believe in each other. They believe and know their teachers are going to help them be their best self.

My Project

Students are always on the move. We move from room to room. We move from activity to activity. Even after school they are moving around town. In the room, we are no different.

My first grade students are constantly in need of motion.

The typical school chairs do not allow for this safely. Instead we end up with students sitting on their knees, feet through the backs of the chairs, or chairs and students tipping over. We need better seating options. The requested Jellyfish Jr. seats, Wobble Chairs, Peanut Balance Balls, and Balance Cushions will help address these needs.

We also need Exercise Resistance Loop Bands.

Being able to move, bounce, and stretch all while still learning is key to being successful learners in our room. These new seats will be placed around the room at different working tables. Students will have the option of switching out their traditional chair for one of these during the work day. In the afternoon, during our reading block, the chairs will return to their designated centers so every student gets a chance to use them during the center rotation!
