Wiggle and Move While Still Working

My students need a variety of ways to release energy while still working at their desk. The wobble stools and balls will give my students an alternative way to sit at their desk!

My Students

My students come from a rural farm community. Our school is a Pre-K through 6th grade building. We have five first grade classrooms. Each class has about twenty two students. Our school has a little over 800 students in our building. We are a Title I school with about 50% qualifying for free and reduced services. I have a very diverse group of first grade students in my room each year. This year, I have students with special needs, an ELL background, ADHD, foster children, and the list goes on and on. All of my students are very active 6 and 7 year olds as they should be!

My Project

My young first graders still need to be allowed to move about and wiggle safely while doing their work. The wobble stools, balls, and bands for their feet will allow my students safe ways to get their wiggles out while still working. While I offer my students multiple brain breaks throughout the day, they still have a hard time focusing and doing their work. Students currently sit on a hard, boring chair that does not allow them to release energy. My students with special needs and/or ADHD will especially benefit from these items. All items will allow students to release energy and get extra sensory input all while continuing to work. This will also help increase time on task and overall work completed. I am excited about these new tools to enhance the overall learning environment of my classroom!
