Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am excited to welcome 56 fifth graders into my Title 1 Math and Science classroom this September. They are all unique and special, coming from different countries, cultures and speaking different languages. They bring these and their experiences together to form one classroom.

All of my students want to learn and succeed, they just need to have the tools to do so.

They deserve to have the dream classroom that meets their needs and supports them as they overcome the many challenges that face them.

My Project

I have two sections of fifth graders learning Math and Science in our room. Can you imagine sitting in a one size fits all hard chair while tackling fractions or exploring ecosystems? Research has shown that movement supports brain development. As a child moves, more oxygen is delivered to the brain, they are are able to concentrate longer, improve their memory and keep a positive outlook.

My students know their bodies need to move to help them learn.

They ask to stand and lean on the radiator when it is not on, sit on the floor, or sit on my chair. I accommodate their requests and allow them to wiggle while they learn for 135 minutes a day.

As we learn about Health and Nutrition and research ways to stay healthy, students ask why they are asked to sit still for so long? I am hoping that the Kore Active Stools and Balance Ball Chairs will answer some of their questions.
