My Students

My students are part of the incoming freshmen class. Prior to the 2021-2021 school year, students were admitted to the school based on academic and merit-based criteria.  The admissions policy was recently changed by the school board and the school will now admit students by lottery, similar to the other comprehensive high schools in our district.

I am a new teacher at my school and will be working with the new cohort of freshmen that have been admitted by lottery.

The class of 2025 will be the school's most diverse yet and I'm excited that 100 of those students will be in my classroom.

My Project

Projecting material is almost a daily activity in any classroom. With a year in distance learning, students have come to rely on technology and the many applications that have developed to support classroom learning. For the next school year, I will be a new teacher traveling to two separate classrooms. Prior to COVID, this would involve packing materials onto a cart that you would maneuver through the hallways and hope that you can get from A to B in five minutes. A teacher that does not travel, can use those five minutes to set up for their next class. Upon arriving at the classroom, you hope that the needed technology to project a lesson would be available for use. Even on good days, this involves time to plug in and hook things up and hope that everything will work! Valuable time is lost even when things go as planned.

By donating to our project, you will be increasing the number of minutes that can be spent on direct instruction rather than the everyday minutes lost to set up the technology.

By installing Apple TVs in each of the classrooms that I will be using, I can use the iPad to project over Wifi. A presentation, a video, an interactive game can all be incorporated into a lesson making it more engaging for the students. Connecting technology over Wifi means no more cords and adapters that can easily be forgotten or lost! The setup time is reduced to a minute allowing for more direct instructional minutes. This equates to more learning time that will ultimately help to increase academic achievement.

Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their literacy as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
