My Students

Teaching children at home in one of the most expensive cities in the country brings many unusual challenges. We currently have a disproportionate district system of school funding that is generously being supplemented by corporate donations. My students are not among the most socially or economically disadvantaged in my city, so they are often ignored. It is my experience that kids can do anything if you give them the right tools. It is, therefore, my job to get them what they need to succeed.

My Project

Imagine being stuck at home all year, and then coming back to school and doing lots of work on the computer. The hands-on creative juices can't flow properly. Everybody has gotten used to doing everything on tech! Well it's my intention to give the kids these models of birdhouses to build and decorate. Using animal friendly materials including paint, they'll make something useful,or a cherished heirloom (whatever the parent prefers.) Pretty fun stuff...right?

Many of my students don't get the chance to leave their neighborhood unless it is for a field trip, so I try to let them experience the world through creative art projects.

Fourth graders begin to learn about the natural world, and I like to encourage this interest by incorporating a buildable project whenever possible. All written reports are complemented by the model. These projects allow the students to practice individuality and creativity and also include a shelf to display the finished model. In addition, all work is done in class.
