Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my first year as a Film Teacher, I've grown to build great relationships with all of my students. Unfortunately, their ability to create has been severely hindered by the previous turnover within the position I now hold.

Aiming to change this, I came in to my first year of teaching prepared to give these students the chance to fully express their creativity, and they have absolutely delivered.

We spent our school year learning everything and anything about Horror Cinema. We started with the History of Horror films, the conventions and techniques used to make them, and then they learned everything about filmmaking so that they could then write, shoot, and edit their own Horror short films. And like I mentioned before... they nailed it.

To celebrate their achievements, with the help of my school, I have managed to put together a Film Festival where these films will be screened and the students who made them will be celebrated and given prizes. However, funding for these prizes is difficult to come by, hence this page.

My ultimate goal with these awards is to both reward the students for their hard work, inspire AND cultivate a continued love of making movies. I want them to walk away confident that the skills they learned can help lead them to a career in making movies, television, commercials, or even music videos. Rewarding students with the book, vlogging kit, and the ring light would be the perfect starter kit to continue their interest in creating.
