Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a group of fourth grade students who are highly enthusiastic and eager to learn something new every single day! My students always try their best at everything and anything despite the challenges that they face in their daily lives.

My students live in an impoverished area of South Los Angeles.

All of my students come from low-income families. We are a Title I school where 100% of our students receive free meals. As a Title I school, we have limited supplies, limited resources, and are very low on the technology scale. My students do not all have the same opportunities at home, and thus need to be exposed to as many opportunities as possible at school.

My Project

My students need chapter books from our favorite and funniest author, Louis Sachar such as Fuzzy Mud, Dogs Don't Tell Jokes and Flying Birthday Cake?. Think about your favorite childhood author. Who was your favorite? We started reading "Sideway Stories from Wayside School" by Louis Sachar and we are definitely enjoying it. We are loving it so much that Louis Sachar has become our favorite author of all time. With your help, we want to add a new section to our "Collections Bookshelf," the Louis Sachar Collection! Every single book that I am requesting is by Louis Sachar. I am even requesting two of each book so that we can have two rotating copies for our weekly classroom library checkout system.

This project is my students idea. They encouraged me to post a project requesting Louis Sachar books. With your support, I would like to fulfill my students drive for reading. Sometimes it's hard to get students to read for pleasure. I think we're about to overcome that hurdle once our project is funded.
