My Students

Have you ever received an electronic devise as a gift and it doesn't come with batteries? It gets thrown aside until you search high and low for batteries, just to start playing. Well we have these MacBooks that were given to us and they came with no power cords; we don't want them thrown aside.

My students range in grade from PK to 5th grade and we live in our Nation's Capital, the Mecca of museums and art galleries.

They are budding artists in their own right and have the capabilities to have their work hung next to the Master's in these great halls. I constantly compare them to great masters of all-time; I don't want to be the one that overlooks the next Leonardo, Michelangelo or Raphael. It gives them the confidence to excel beyond their wildest imagination. We are a title-one school, but you will never hear me mention that to them. They already have a fixed deck. My role as an art teacher is to try to level the playing field, so they have the same opportunities as anyone else and many times that starts with the resources because they already have greater than or equal the talent level of ALL of their peers across the country.

My Project

We have received an awesome donation from our school district's warehouse of 2 refurbished MacBook's so I can begin introducing digital art as a viable art form. When we received them, they came with no power adapters so right now, they are just sitting on a shelf collecting dust. Time is of the essence, I want to get these devises into their hands sooner than later, so we can begin creating art, the digital kind.

Many of my students are not great artist, but they are extremely creative and full of ideas.

This will give them an opportunity to expand their horizon of the arts from pencils, crayons and paint to pixels and jpegs images to open up their minds to potentially new career paths in digital media. At first, it may just seem to be a power cord that I'm looking for but it is like a defibrillator to the MacBooks to once again give them life.
