Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students will come to me in fall having finished Kinder in distance learning and will more than likely start distance learning in the fall. They did not get the fun "kinder culmination", nor will they be able to experience starting school as a "big" 1st grader, on a big yard, with their friends. They come from low-income households and have not had much experience with the world outside their small community.

Many of my students don't have the proper supplies to be successful with distance learning.

Many depend on worksheet packets and whatever books they have at home. Despite the hardships they are facing with school being closed, they are eager learners.

My Project

Do you remember going back to school shopping and picking out that perfect backpack and pencil set to show off to your friends? The families that I teach typically just struggle to put food on the table. School supplies are something the school provides. I usually don't give homework where anything other than a pencil and some crayons are needed.

However, this year, kids will be doing the learning at home.

They will need all of the necessary supplies to complete their work from home. With budget cuts to schools as well, who will provide these materials? If this project gets funded, I will be able to assign work for them to complete and know that they have to proper tools to complete the assignments. They will be able to write, draw, cut, glue and solve math problems with their new supplies at home. I will also teach them how to sThat is why I am trying to gather up the tools my 6 year olds will need to be successful, AT HOME!
