My Students

I teach an enthusiastic group of third through fifth graders who are each as unique as they are lovable. My students are eager to learn and grow. Their passion for learning comes out in so many ways, from sharing their opinions on our class read alouds to expressing their thoughts in feelings in their reflection journals. Although all my students have their own strengths and growth areas, we all particularly love our daily independent reading time where we turn on our twinkle lights, get cozy, and curl up with good book.

My students thrive in environments where they feel known, loved, and valued.

As a class we are striving to build that space for each other. My students come from many different backgrounds and have many different needs, but each day we are committed to coming together and supporting one another in our learning journey.

My Project

The students in my classroom span a wide range of reading abilities; however, they all deserve access to age-appropriate books they can enjoy. It can be difficult for older students who are struggling with various reading skills to find books that appeal to them because most books they can decode were written for a much younger audience. Without access to books they love, struggling readers face an uphill climb in developing a life-long love for reading.

Wordless picture books bridge the gap between what students are capable of reading independently and the engaging stories their classmates love.

Not only do wordless picture books create access to exciting stories for struggling readers, but they encourage ALL readers to use their imagination and spark up a conversation about books. My hope is that no student ever leaves my classroom library feeling like they couldn't find a book that was just right for them. Help me give all my students access to books they can enjoy and foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime.
