My Students

I have students who love to use technology, such as using a laptop or an iPad to read on Epic or to solve math word problems on MobyMax and Zearn. However, my students do not have enough math manipulatives at home. Using place value disks and whiteboards are great tools to keep my students engaged and motivated to do math and to show their math thinking despite being at home.

My K-2 class consists of general education, special education, and ESL learners who are motivated and curious to learn when they are engaged in real and authentic hands-on experiences.

Having math manipulatives supports our Title I school belief that our diverse population learning needs must be met in a variety of ways. When my students use math manipulatives, they also focus better and perform higher on school examinations.

My Project

You will be helping my students learn at home in variety of ways by having access to these math tools that are significant for students in a special needs classroom to use in grades K-2.

In grades K-2, it is important for students to learn using manipulatives and doing hands-on activities to gain a deeper understanding of math concepts.

For instance, when students are learning addition and subtraction, they need to be able to see and feel the counters and place value disks to move them around and count.

Lastly, students are truly engaged and more successful in math when they are able to use manipulatives.
