My Students

We devote a full hour of every school day to learning cursive and new spelling words in our third grade class. These white boards can help turn this into a fun and engaging activity, helping to foster a love of words among our students.

We've got a rambunctious group of third graders who love to be involved in their learning.

Our school is also extremely focused on the importance of reading, writing, and phonics, so we spend a great deal of time focusing on handwriting, spelling words and word games. It's a classical school, so we still teach and heavily emphasize cursive, which is phenomenal considering all the benefits it provides students.

My Project

We spend nearly the first two months of school learning cursive during our phonics and spelling block, and a key part of this process is repetition to build muscle memory. These white boards, markers, and erasers would allow students to practice the new cursive letters, phonograms and words multiple times without wasting paper and would also provide an easy way for students to show their work to the teacher. Throughout the rest of the year, the boards would be a valuable tool as we learn new spelling words and play review games before quizzes and tests.

When a student is excited about what they are learning, it is so much more likely to make an impression and stick around in their brains.

And, when you're 7 or 8 years old, getting to use a white board makes just about anything (including cursive) exciting. Our goal is to create a group of lifelong learners, so any excitement we can foster is a major win.
