My Students

I teach Living Environment for 9th graders. Most of them use computers and cell phones to do their assignments. The rest are still expecting iPads from DOE.

My students are very diverse.

I teach students with learning disabilities and former ESL students. These kids need differentiated instruction and visual support to learn science.

My Project

Many topics in science require teacher's verbal explanation and writing at the same time. Videos, texts and computer presentations cannot substitute teacher's explanation.

Every unit in Living Environment class contains content that needs to be explained and written down.

For example, in Genetics, the teacher explains how to use DNA to write down RNA. In Ecology, food webs are used to identify food chains. Students greatly benefit when the teacher models graphing, creating data tables and charts and diagrams.

Using the white board will greatly affect students' understanding of many important scientific concepts.
