My Students

Picture this... a classroom of 26 five year olds staring at you, eager to soak up any information being taught! They are excited and energetic, despite the fact that many of them come from families with very little. I want my students to have the best resources in front of them all the time!

My students are from a high poverty area of DC.

Despite this fact, the school is one of the top performing schools in the city. Teachers are dedicated to ensuring students have the best of what's around and students are excited to learn and grow. Every day I walk into school, I am greeted by the best smiling 5 year-olds around. It is my job to make sure I am doing everything I can to set them up for successful school careers that lead to the amazing lives that they want and deserve.

My Project

I have requested 2 different materials. The first material I requested is a white board easel. Right now, we don't have a white board near our carpet area where we often teach whole group lessons. This makes it very hard to provide visual models for students. This easel would alleviate that problem, while also providing extra storage for materials that the students use on a daily basis. The other material that I requested are whisper phones. These phones help the students hear themselves while they are reading to help them build their reading fluency and getting them more excited to read independently.

This project will help my students be able to see the materials being taught easier.

This will provide them with better access to the content being taught, especially for those students who are visual learners. All students should be able to learn in a way that is best for them and I want to make sure I have the materials to meet students where they are at.
