My students belong to a college-preparatory exam school in an urban district. They are high achievers. Many will be the first in their family to go on to college after they graduate from high school.
The students don't complain much about the lack of upgraded materials and furniture but I know they notice it.
I don't want what's currently in my classroom to restrict their learning. Our students deserve the best and I can only give that to them with your help!
My Project
I love having students engaged in the work they are doing in Latin class. One way my students show that they are engaged is by going to the white board, either individually or in groups, and map out their learning. Students can literally diagram sentences on the board or diagram the path their reasoning takes them. Right now, my classroom has one unusable board. This is wasted space in the room upon which the students could be practicing their Latin, sketching what they are reading, creating questions which they would like to discuss. Additionally, the chairs in my classroom are filthy, ancient, and covered in gum.
My students need a place to show their comprehension, pose questions, and analyze the texts they are reading.
This white board will be pivotal in their learning. Additionally, the 25 new chairs will be a boom to the classroom. We don't get much in the way of updated furniture in our system. These chairs will give the students pride in their surroundings.
