Help Mrs. Shell

I am a speech-language pathologist in an elementary school in a rural community. I work with children ages 3-12 years who have difficulty with speech and/or language development. One area of speech development that is very important to student success is gaining appropriate oral motor skills (ie. knowing how to move the tongue appropriately, locating the precise placement of articulators for correct speech sound production, having proper lip closure, increasing/decreasing airflow at appropriate times, etc). Development of basic oral motor skills is the basic building block for future articulation success and clarity in speaking situations. When working with students with oral motor difficulties, it is very important that the student is able to make their mouth (tongue, lips, teeth) match the mouth of their therapist. The easiest way to do this is to practice with students in front of a mirror. Therefore, I am requesting the "Webber Portable Therapy Center" from Super Duper. In addition to mirror work, I am frequently in need of tongue depressors to help teach proper speech placement, and rubber gloves to protect myself and the children from germ-sharing. To help with proper airflow, I am also requesting a whistler sampler kit that includes a variety of whistles that require various amounts of air to make a sound (just like with different speech sounds). Oral motor skills are very important to good speech sound production! Thank you in advance for your consideration of this proposal, and thank you for helping us to "Whistle While We Work"!
