My Students

In an effort to learn about the development of embryos, I want my students to be able to observe the progression of real embryos in chicken eggs.

I teach Science to about 100 students in Arkansas.

Some of our students are from farming families and a few are familiar with the life cycle of chickens and other farm animals. However most have never witnessed this first hand. My students love science when it relates to their own lives, and through this fun project I hope to be able to help them to see how important it is for them to have an understanding of the concepts they will learn in this activity.

My Project

In preparation for this experience, my students will learn that a fertilized egg cell carries genetic information from each parent and multiplies to form a complete organism. We will compare a human fertilized egg to a chicken egg. Using the incubator, we will investigate and analyze the development of chicken embryos. We'll also learn about the structure and function of the parts of a chicken egg.

I want my students to have a memorable experience in my science class, and I believe that they will better remember the concepts I'm teaching if they see it all happen first hand.

This could be the inspiration that will help some of my students become future scientists!
