My Project

My students are learning about money. My second graders need to be able to correctly identify currency, know its value, and use mathematical operations such as addition and subtraction in order to appropriately make transactions. Money and real-world experiences go hand and hand. So, in order to balance this lesson with real-life experiences, I set up a classroom store. In this store items such as water games, erasers, keychains, fidget toys, and much more are available for students to buy. Students earn money by showing our school’s PAWS expectations. P is for politeness, A is for achievement, W is for willingness to learn, and S is for safety. After a week of demonstrating these positive qualities, students have the opportunity to spend their money at the store. Through this hands-on activity my students are able to learn how to count and spend money in a supportive and fun fashion.
