Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When entering my classroom my students carry the weight of everyday life. When I push them towards greatness they struggle due to the history they have had with other institutions, adults, and teachers.

I teach at a school which is predominantly low-income latinos who come from diverse neighborhoods, some even taking two busses to get to the school.

Despite these obstacles these students believe in themselves and their greatness. They are embarking on a journey to develop the skills necessary to become the future educators and community leaders that our community needs!

My students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school so they can build connections that will last a lifetime and to learn the tools necessary to transform the world around them.

My Project

My students will be embarking on a new course this year entitled "Critical Reading and Writing for Social change." In this course it is imperative they have access to the newest books breaking down social change in the 21st century. This text is easily going to make the role of individuals like themselves shine through and empower them to create their own social changes. Without these texts we would be unable to cover the diverse range of social movements in U.S. and global history. This book would also be a bridge for students to take what they have learned and apply it to the communities they live in with community action projects.
