My Project

I run a small girls group of 4th and 5th graders. They are such artists! Last year, in the middle of the school year, we lost the college intern who was teaching the girls different art techniques. I am not an artist, but I have always loved scrapbooking.

My plan is to teach them how to scrapbook in journals giving them the opportunity to write their thoughts, feelings, and aspirations.

For children, spoken language is their most challenging form of communication. I want to provide a safe space for them to share their experiences.

At our more than 90% of our children are experiencing reoccurring trauma in their lives. As a School Counselor, I try to see and meet the needs of my all students, but it is just impossible to do so. My hope is that these journals will be the starting point for these girls (and those who join after) to be the overcomers they need to be in order to be successful in their lives.
