My Students

I work with students whom are 18-22 years old and are in special education. Our school is a career and transition center (CTC), where we teach independent living, social, and vocational skills and provide on and off-campus job training. My students are eager to learn and are trying their best to prepare for life after their exit from LAUSD. Our students are hard workers, but depend on instructors and staff to teach them vital skills that will help them be independent and successful.

My Project

Most of my students need visual supports and focused step-by step instruction. Since we are helping to prepare students for employment, my class works on a lot of documents such as practice job applications, resume writing, etc. Having a document reader will allow me to more effectively teach the entire class, or larger groups and provide students the ability to follow along with my steps and demonstrate how to correctly fill in documents. Currently, without a document camera, students lose valuable instruction time as my assistant and I have to bounce around to explain steps to one student at a time.
