My Project

If we want kids to be good readers, we must help them fall in love with reading. One of the easiest ways is to read aloud amazing, unforgettable books.

"When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Peach Pie" by Erin Soderberg Downing, is the first book in The Great Peach Experiment series.

A favorite part of the day in my classroom is read-aloud time. This is the time when my class gathers together, all with a book in hand, and students listen to a story being read to them. Reading aloud to students allows them to listen to a fluent reader, thus building their listening vocabulary. We work through a variety of comprehension activities after each chapter or section of our read-aloud book.

"When Life Gives You Lemons, Make Peach Pie" has so much of what I am looking for in a read-aloud- it includes sequels (I love setting the stage for students to want more books). It includes geography with travel across the country, which opens up learning about different places. It has multiple food references (pies with recipes! To make upon finishing the book). It is about food trucks...which provides a project based learning opportunity in which students to come up with their own food truck theme- art, writing, problem solving, and math.
