This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are living through one of the most difficult and extraordinary time in our lives. Our students will forever remember that day in March when we said goodbye for the weekend and yet never returned for the school year. But thankfully distance learning was there! and so was mental health!

Mental health is now even more important than it ever was before.

No one really knows how this pandemic will affect our students in the future and for the rest of their lives but we do know that we have a tough year ahead of us. And I want to make sure that this feels as "normal" as possible for them and I want them to feel like we are still a big family even when we are not face to face.

My Project

Never could I have imagined on this crazy day March 13th that this would be the last day I would hug and see my students "in real life" for the remainder of the school year. This was a challenge but I am so proud of all of my students for being such champs during these crazy times.

Counseling and mental health have been essential to our students success in the past, and it is even more crucial now that we are dealing with a pandemic and having to help them remotely.

We still have a lot of uncertainty about going back to school, especially being in South Florida where cases continue to rise and these resources will help make sure that our students' mental health is taken care of and they will continue to know how much we care for them and that we will NEVER give up on them, no matter what.

These supplies are essential for mental health. The sand tray will be used with everyone but especially children who have experienced a traumatic event. This helps with assessing students, treating and increasing emotional expression while reducing psychological distress.

The workbooks are a great tool to use so students can work on skills on their own or with counselor or parents. Workbooks make it easy for family members to communicate with their children about certain issues or scenarios going on. Paint by numbers are excellent tools to use for therapy purposes. Painting has been demonstrated to help with concentration, relaxation, self esteem and feelings of accomplishments seeing the end result. Therapeutic games will be used with everyone to help them disclose and work on their skills in less intimidating way, thus facilitating communication and change faster.
