Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As Latin and Spanish are both new to the school, I am working with little to no decorations except for things I have purchased with my own money. I want to create a feeling of being in Ancient Rome, giving them access to important figures and gods during that time frame. My goal is to have them feel like they are transported in time on one side of the room, and feel at home on the other side as many of my students are Latino. I want them to feel pride in their roots while also learning about something that predates the language most of them speak.

Having the busts of Caesar and Minerva will help facilitate conversation on important emperors / leaders of Ancient Rome, as well as give them a look into how gods were portrayed by the Romans.

This will assist them in creating their own "busts" for emperors and important Romans as a project later in the year.

The flags are a fun way to not only decorate the classroom but to give a visual representation of the Spanish speaking countries. I will be able to use them as a visual for when we discuss important details on each country during our different units.
