My Students

My students are the greatest ever! Anyone who says that the middle school years are the worst, have never been in our neck of the woods. These kids are energetic, creative, and are true explorers of the world around them.

I have a group of hardworking kids who deserve every chance at making the grade.

Most of the children I teach are eager to do their best, despite challenges they have in their everyday lives. Most of my students are tweens with at least one absent parent, or being raised by extended family members.

No matter the situations or hardships they face, they understand that if they just showed up and did their best, somehow, someway, they will be rewarded.

My Project

"Docendo Discimus". When I teach, I learn. The concept of "futurity is a well known best practice and should be incorporated in all teaching practices. I encourage my students to step outside of their norm and become their own "sage on the stage".

When children are able to teach others, they not only integrate new skills learned but also have the opportunity to increase their observation and interpersonal skills, develop insight into their own attention and concentration, become aware of learning and communication styles, as well as improve their cultural awareness when teaching someone whose background is different than their own.

My students will be able to create teaching videos for their classmates and students in the younger grades. When children see children create they are more apt to be inspired to learn and retain needed skills for learning and afterward. They will work with teams and partners to develop scripts and visual footage for various lessons. The video camera along with software on an iPad will allow them to develop their visual and literary talents. These skills will transfer over into other facets of life.

By having the motivation of creativity at their fingertips, I believe that my students will find a new love for learning that will go beyond the classroom and their formal education. By producing their own teaching videos they will acquire the needed communication skills to make them college and career ready. Only the sky will be the limit for them!
