Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a Special Education teachers at a K-5 Elementary school. My position is a Resource Teacher for Special Education students in grade 3. The students which I service have Specific Learning Disabilities and experience a great deal of academic frustrations due to significant learning delays. Due to the significant reading and writing disabilities of my students, they can become frustrated easily and turn off to reading, if not kept excited, motivated, and encouraged. To excite my students, I plan to concentrate on the study of a specific author. Hans Wilhelm is the author that has been selected due to his heart-warming tales. The books ordered will be sent home and will be read to their parents. At the conclusion of the reading and discussion of each book, the students will retell the stories orally and in writing. One story will be selected by the students in which they will make their own books, by revising it in their own words. What will truly make this project come alive is the fact that Hans Wilhelm has agreed to visit our school on Nov.28th, 2007. The parents of my students will be invited to his presentation. Additional easy readers have been selected to improve fluency and to learn about additional authors.
