Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Because it has been an extraordinary couple of years with Covid and online learning I want my students to feel like they are part of a community in their schools! I want to have the students in each of my schools create a school-wide group project that will fill the hallways this spring. If possible I would like for this to be part of the art night which is a community event. If Covid doesn't allow for parents and siblings to come into the school the students will still create the project for each other.

The project:

Create the lifecycle of butterflies throughout the school, with each grade contributing to the story of butterflies. I also want the upper grades to surprise the lower grades with butterfly doorways to enter their classrooms. The students will create butterflies, eggs, caterpillars, chrysalis, and giant flowers. I will need supplies for this and your help would be greatly appritiated!

My Project

Students will work together to create a butterfly art event. Using various brightly colored papers, jewels, glitters, and paints to create butterflies, tissue papers, and glues to create caterpillars, chrysalis, and eggs students will create a school-wide garden to showcase the butterfly life cycle.

Working together creates a sense of being part of something larger than themselves and fosters a sense of collaborative unity.

Watching their collective art project emerge into a beautiful installation of the butterfly life cycle will create a community feeling within their school and help students realize that something magnificent can be created when people work together.
