My Project

My 4 and 5 year old music students are simply amazing! They are always happy to see me, ready to sing, play, and learn about the world through music. Combining art with our lessons completely enchants my little friends. For instance, a few weeks ago when we learned a song about ducks, Pato came to visit. We talked to him about high and low notes, sang to him the parts that were in English, and then he sang the parts that were in Spanish for my students to learn. Of course, we had to get up and quack and waddle the same way that Pato did! My students also made a mask so that they, too, could look like Pato while they were singing. By the end of a thirty minute class, my students were able to identify high and low within a song, recall that pato means duck in Spanish, and keep a steady beat while moving and singing to a song while singing with a group. They also had a mask to take home to their grown ups!

Combining art projects with my music lessons for my youngest musicians is utilizing all 5 senses, thereby almost guaranteeing that these sweet children will remember the concept that is being taught.

With our instrument unit quickly approaching, my students need hands-on resources so that they can identify specific instruments by sight and recall which family they belong to.
