Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher’s hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.” – David Warlick By the end of the school year, our students will know what a stock is.

Nestled in the heart of the South Bronx is an elementary school with students who have great potentials in becoming successful citizens in today’s society.

Our students will learn more than investing: with the use of advanced equipment, they will learn core academics and social skills that will allow them to succeed in and out of the classroom. The Fairmont Neighborhood School (PreK-3) has a population of about 300 students. Despite the fact that some of our children are from low socio-economic backgrounds, with little or no parental support, they have managed to excel in various academic areas. Our resources are very limited when it comes to technology.

My Project

Our students will be able to participate in the Stock Market Game. The Stock Market Game is an online educational program that offers players the opportunity to invest a hypothetical $100,000 in stocks, bonds and mutual funds. The laptop we are requesting, will allow our students to log in to the website, perform trades and research stock prices. Our students will have the opportunity to compete in the InvestWrite competition which will help them reinforce the concepts they learn in our classroom and put it in writing. They will learn to collaborate as team members in order to compete for the top spot in producing the best portfolio.

The donations will help implement the Stock Market Game in our school.

Our students will be able to enter trades and update their portfolio on a daily basis. This program teaches math, social studies, business, economics, and language skills, while focusing on the importance of long-term savings and investment. Financial Literacy will help our students make important decisions regarding money and savings. "Financial Literacy education has lasting impact" USA Today (April 4, 2014)
