My Students

Do you remember your science teachers saying: "You cannot see the particles of matter, but they exist. Just use your imagination or look at the diagram and imagine these particles moving around and bumping into each other"? I was trying really hard, but could not imagine what I have never seen.

I teach science in High School in metropolitan NY.

My students are very diverse. I teach special education, ESL and gifted and talented kids. Some of them just came to this country and some, even though born here, are still struggling with their reading and writing skills. I strongly believe that all of them have the potential to do very well in science and other subjects. They just need additional resources: colorful presentations, pictures, animations, videos of science in action and relate it to their daily lives.

My Project

I will be able to teach chemistry, biology and earth science using animations, virtual laboratory activities, videos. My students will be able to create projects, do the research and save it on the computer. They will be able to look at the earth processes from deep inside the earth core; see particles of different elements participating in chemical reactions; see natural processes not just pictures in the text book, but as a dynamic events. They will be able to visit the North Pole, have a trip on the moon and feed animals in the jungle.

One of my goals as a science teacher is for my students to love science.

I think that I can accomplish that by using the netbook for my lessons. A lot of classrooms in my schools have Promethean boards that can only be used if the computer is available teach in four different classrooms, so the light weight netbook can definitely help me to move around the school. I hope my students will be fascinated by my presentations and activities, they will see science in action and ,thus, believe
