Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Who can deny that beginning writing is not the cutest thing to read? Beginning writers spell words how they hear them. But what about a student who can't understand the letters and their sounds. How can they learn to spell words?

My students are amazing!

Although they struggle to convey their ideas when speaking, they love to illustrate what they are thinking about since they are visual learners. Many of them speak predominantly Spanish and are a little apprehensive about saying their words in English. However, in years to come, they will be taking exams in the English language. Our school is a new school in its first year and we have a dedicated staff who will go above and beyond to get these students to work to their potential. They truly do have such great potential and work so hard in spite of their disabilities.

My Project

I envision using these resources in small group instruction. The students will learn new vocabulary by using the dictionaries with teacher guidance. Then they will have the opportunity to build words and create sentences using the magnetic letters and magnetic board. They can share what they want to say through the use of these tactile tools.

My students really struggle to express themselves verbally.

Part of the reason is because of language delays and the other part is the fact that they do not have the confidence to speak the English language since it is not their first language at home. The magnetic tiles will help them learn the letters and their sounds so that they can encode words and communicate these words.
