Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach 4th grade ELA in a low-income neighborhood where supplies are limited. But my students are bright and always excited to learn! They are very creative and have that innate will to learn and teach one another every single day. They are always looking for exciting new books to read, discover, and delve deeper into. They challenge themselves mentally and emotionally every day to take on new challenges. In order to differentiate my instruction, I like to give them resources at their level. Sometimes Chromebooks can be hard to navigate or just distracting I want to give my students paper versions so that they can travel and refer back to them whenever needed. They inspire me to get out of my comfort zone and try something that may be daunting but without failure nothing is possible. They truly motivate me to try new things and bring new meaning to the term "You will always miss 100% of the shots you don't take!".
Being able to access a Spanish-English dictionary and thesaurus will give my ENL students the independence that they need to succeed.
They will be able to use laminated worksheets to reference anchor charts that will be used all year long!
Help me give them the joy of touching and feeling materials. Something that you read and take notes on a computer screen does not really hold a strong place in your mind because you haven't physically written anything. There is something very powerful in writing physically and dissecting a piece of literature.
