"Do you remember being in the creek and playing in the water?" My students do not. Please help me make students environmentally aware and apply their science skills as we test water samples from various locations along the creek for pH and dissolved oxygen content in the water samples they collect.
We are a small public rural school district.
All of the textile businesses have left the area and my students struggle for opportunities to enrich their learning outside of the school building. Many of my students do not leave the area other than to go to school due to financial reasons. However, my students love to learn, once they have the opportunity to "see" or "do" something they will run with the idea and therefore their education and learning continues to more forward.
My Project
"I would love for you to help provide the students with an opportunity to test the water around the area and also at their homes". Students will be able to check out the materials to take them home to test water samples and determine the pH level, turbidity (cleanliness), and dissolved oxygen content of water sources around their home. By doing this, students will be able to determine what types of pollution may be contributing to their water at their home. By comparing different water sources from around the county, students will be able to identify healthy areas, polluted areas and compare various waters to determine why some plants and animals are in one part of the county as compared to the other. By having students take the materials home, they can also teacher their parents about the information, therefore making positive changes in the entire families life.
Please help me teach my students about the importance of water quality for present and future generations.
Children only value what we teach them to value and by providing equipment for soil testing we are showing them the importance of taking care of the environment for future.
