My Students

There are so many great ways to keep up with the real world for adults. The Internet, news programs and magazines are great ways that adults keep up with the world around them. I find it important for kids to have good, reliable materials to do the same thing.

My students live in a suburban area of the Midwest and often times get little to no exposure to other areas of the country, much less the world.

The majority of our building is African-American and they attend a public school with close to 500 students. They love to learn about new places and are very curious about the world and how it is different from their own lives.

My Project

I am a student of the world and enjoy learning new things about new cultures and places. I try to pass this on love of our world on to my students. I like to have materials in the classroom for them to read and study that help them connect to the world around them. By using Time for Kid and Super Science magazines, my students can read and talk with each other about what they are discovering about others. Not only do they need to learn about the people in the world, but they need to understand the physical differences between our world and the geography of our planet. The teacher resources helping the students understand geography and how our world works will allow them to know both aspects of our planet and how it works.

Creating lifelong learners and students who want to be good citizens is an important part of teaching students in the 21st century.

Making them aware of what is happening in the world around them and how they fit into that world is a great way to start them to develop a sense of where they belong and who they are. I want to make this as interesting as possible and know that these materials will help with that.
