My Students

My school is a Title 1 elementary school located in Brooklyn. All of my students receive free school lunch. Our students are bursting with energy, and enthusiasm, and we try our best to provide them with as much opportunity as possible.

I have been a teacher for over 10 years, and it has always bothered me that although we live in NYC, a city bubbling over with museums, zoos, and other cultural organizations, many of my students are not familiar with or even aware of these organizations because of the high cost of a visit.

My Project

My school is a magnet school for the arts, and I recently became aware of a program available to Title 1 schools that seems like a perfect fit for us! It's called Cool Culture - Literacy Without Walls, and it supports pre-k & k families & staff from Title 1 schools throughout NYC. It is a 2-part fee-for service program for $2700. The program consists of personalized Cool Culture Family Passes for each pre-k and k family at the school. The pass provides free, unlimited general admission for up to 5 people at 90 partner museums, gardens, and zoos throughout the 5 boroughs. The program also provides 4 professional development workshops for 2 teachers, held at cultural institutions around the city, that will provide training on best practices for supporting family involvement through the arts, educational resources, and connect the teachers with educators from some of NYC's world-renowned museums.

Without the Cool Culture Family Pass, the cost for a family of 5 to visit the Children's Museum of Manhattan is a steep $60!

That's without the cost of transportation, and food for the trip. The Cool Culture Card will make weekend visits to 90 different institutions, such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, American Museum of Natural History, Brooklyn Museum, Central Park Zoo, and the New York Botanical Garden a reality for all pre-k & k families at our school.
