My Students

My students are ages 5 to 8 and have so many different personalities since they are all ages. We teach small group, ability leveled independent learners! They always amaze me of how they become a small community helping one another with problem solving situations.

Leaders emerge from the group... teaching a skill they understand to another child makes my heart happy.

When I am facilitating small groups, my students are doing individual learning paths created on their ability. When a question arises, we have taught them to seek help, not the answers from each other. It works!

Our program has many successful, above level, academically minded and socially well rounded sweet kids as they leave us to enter third grade.

My Project

We have to SHARE all sorts of technology at our school and we are told to incorporate it into our lessons...so we do! I teach them to type, edit, and be creative in the stories, skits, and rhymes they produce and we can SAVE them to the drive.. only to be discouraged the next week because we get a different cart of computers. We want to display our work, see it, take it home to show off to the parents..

I want to make this possible for them to actually complete and publish their works.

My students want to print the awards they get when completing a task that is assigned to them to complete for the efforts of their hard work!

The main reason I want this for my class is that I am a book lover and I want every child to create a book this year of their own... complete with illustrations. I want this to be a year long task to be worked on in class at their allotted time. Having our own printer in the room would allow me to print and assist them in editing their works and publish it when complete for the end of the year Read and Celebrate Me Day....where they read it to their parents. Do you know how exciting that would be to a bunch of first and second graders? And let me tell you, they are quite the authors!
