My Students

I teach Theatre Arts to sixth, seventh, and eighth graders in an urban middle school in Southern California that is under-resourced. We are a Title I public middle school and the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Our school is in the middle of some tough neighborhoods, and students often have to overcome many of the obstacles that poverty can present in order to succeed.

They inspire me every day with their willingness to try new things.

My Project

This play about a 15 year old girl who traces the steps of how the U.S. Constitution shaped the lives of four generations of women will help my eighth-grade students connect to their U.S. History lessons in a powerful way!

I believe this theatrical experience will help them value our democracy and help them reflect on how their lives have also been shaped by this founding document.

I believe it will inspire them to be civically involved in their community and in our nation's political system. Live theatre has the power to change and shape our perspective in moving, powerful ways that a classroom lesson cannot compete with.
