My Students

Can you imagine seeing a whale swim through the vast oceans on the wall in your classroom? Wouldn't it be exciting to see and hear children learning how to read halfway around the world? Connecting to the Internet via a projector would open up our small world to the world outside our door.

My delightful, six year old students are from a rural, well-established Pre-K to 8th grade school in Oklahoma.

Many of the students' parents have graduated from this school and have brought their children here to receive the same child-centered, skill based, and innovative education. These young children are curious and fascinated with nonfictional materials. They eagerly anticipate each new unit of study and look forward to the "real" pictures from the books and Internet I bring into the classroom. They have measured the length of dinosaurs, sharks, and whales and have imagined their place along side these magnificent creatures.

My Project

My students will be able to learn about their world through the Internet via the projector. I have always copied the pictures about our themed units and held them up and passed them around for the children to view. Now, they will be able to see the pictures from the Internet projected on the wall. Each little face will smile from ear-to-ear as they eagerly view whales from the oceans, videos about bears, and songs from Hawaii. No longer will we have to wait to pass the pictures around the room. We will be able to measure the length of a real snake or to measure the wingspan of a pterodactyl. My students will be able to see the real Eiffel Tower when we read about Madeline. They will jump for joy as they watch airplanes soar through the air. Their ears will enjoy the song of a faraway child in another land. They will become integrated with the world all around them.

This project is so important because I am laying the foundation for their entire education.

My classroom is the gateway to the world of knowledge. Linking the projector with the Internet will allow my students to become a member of this multicultural world in which they live. Imagine all of the places their minds can go when we project all of their world and its mighty splendor.
