Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students can count by whole numbers but need all the support possible with decimals. The counting disc will allow my students to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and round by decimals. The decimal whiteboards will allow my students to understand where each decimal is located on the place value chart and how to represent those values in standard, word, and expanded forms. The decimal dice will allow my students to create their own decimal equations to solve, leading to taking ownership of their learning.

The goal of this project is to provide my students with opportunities to understand decimals.

What sets my students apart is their will to learn, to be seen, and to be understood. They show up to the math lab daily ready to ask questions and be challenged. They feel seen because their work speaks volumes about their abilities. Lastly, they feel understood as the math lab creates a safe space for them to explore mathematical concepts in ways a textbook does not offer them. For these reasons, these counting tools are needed.
