My Students

Young. Resilient. Flexible. Inspiring. Those are the words that our students embody each and every day. A new elementary school in New York City, we're in the process of adding a grade of students every year. Currently only pre-kindergarten through third grade, our school houses primarily young learners.

Whether remotely, in school part-time, or in school full-time our students make the best of their schooling to socialize, create positive experiences, and grow.

Three out of the four years our school has been operating, we've been affected by COVID-19. These unforeseen circumstances coupled with conflicting priorities in our limited school budget have made it difficult to support our learners in developing and growing.

My Project

This year, more than ever, it is imperative to make sure all of our students' needs are met. To do this, we need to make sure we have the individualized supports for our learners. Many of our students love reading but struggle to understand what exactly they're reading.

With this intervention program, we will be able to adequately support our learners in their ability to read and understand a story.

We will be able to support them in identifying story elements such as character, setting, problem, and solution in an engaging and fun way. Learners will be able to consistently utilize the same strategy across texts so that reading for understanding becomes habit.
