Help Ms. P.

I am a new teacher of French II and French III in a large, urban high school in Washington, DC, situated in a 1930's vintage building. Aside from books and some basic materials, the 9 teachers in the language department share a lot of the teaching equipment, much of it old and unreliable. Many of the teachers are forced to buy their own. I like to use the overhead projector to present my daily warm-ups, some of my lessons, and the prepared overhead color images that students describe orally or in writing. The overhead projector allows me prepare in advance and make more smooth the quick transitions between classes that we must make. On my third day of teaching, in the second class, the bulb went out on the overhead I inherited! My teaching has shifted to low-tech, white-board only visuals ever since. (Try re-prepping your warm-up on the board for an incoming class when you have 5 minutes only and you are supposed to be doing hall duty!) My overhead is so ancient that I cannot find a brand name written on it anywhere. I have searched for a replacement bulb at the school, an office supply store and online, but none resemble it. I conclude that I am dealing with an antique and that I need to replace it! I teach 5 classes of 9-12 grade students who are required to take two years of language. They are of myriad backgrounds and varying economic levels. They are good kids, and I have the energy and wisdom (I am a second career teacher) to help make a difference for them, but I need tools. I would be so appreciative, and I know my students would be too, if I could get a new overhead projector. I have an ambitious curriculum and this piece of equipment would really help! Merci beaucoup!
