FULLY FUNDED! Ms. A.'s classroom raised $349
This project is fully funded
I am the art teacher at a year round elementary school in Wake County, North Carolina. I teach over 850 students in grades K-5 approximately once per week. Every year I teach my third grade students how to weave using cardboard looms. We always discuss all of the different ways to make cloth from yarn. We even dye some wool using Kool-Aid! One thing that I would like to teach my fourth grade students to do is how to knit. I have had a few students who have relatives who have taught them, and they keep asking me to teach everyone because they want their friends to learn. (I suspect that they also want to demonstrate their knowledge) This would be a great follow up to learning how to weave in 3rd grade. Knitting is a great activity for students of all ability levels because it requires counting, pattern, and patience. Don't worry, boys like knitting just as much as girls-- did you know that fishermen were the inventors of knitting? All it is is knotting using sticks! Unfortunately we do not have any knitting needles. I have tried using pencils, but this is not ideal because there is nothing to stop the yarn from falling off the bottom and students become frustrated. Anyway, we need our pencils available in order to draw! This request is for 75 sets of #8 knitting needles. This would allow me to teach knitting to half of my 4th grade classes at a time, year after year. These needles are safe plastic knitting needles, ideal for use in my classroom. I hope you will decide to fund this proposal. I am sure many future recipients of scarves and hamster blankets from my students will be very thankful, as will we! Thanks for reading.
