This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

First grade...what an exciting time in a child's life! Inquisitive, energetic, thoughtful, engaged and resilient are words that describe my scholars. Daily they arrive ready and eager to meet and often exceed my high expectations.

When I look into my students' eyes, I see the future of this community.

Some outsiders may look upon them with pity because of what they perceive them not to have; but, if given the opportunity, my group of "world changers" will amaze you with their grit and tenacity.

My Project

I have seen that the more opportunities a student has to write, the better their reading skills become.

Because of the link between the two subjects, I would like to ignite a love of writing in my students by way of providing opportunities to publish their writing thus deepening their reading skills. My students will have the opportunity to create and publish student created books, poems, and narratives. It will allow them to showcase their unique voice in their pieces.

Because a large population of my students are second language learners, those students will have chances to develop not only writing in their native language, but also practice writing in their newly acquired language.
