My Students

"Look! I did it! I wrote my name!" My sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our room. One thing they all have in common is using their imaginations and creating a happy world within our walls.

Daily, my students overcome a variety of basic challenges - getting breakfast, making it to school, having homework completed.

Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district, serving over 80% free/reduce lunch. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars - where expectations are the same every day, and their basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun. This is what keeps them coming back and keeps them hooked into learning the rigorous academic standards.

My Project

I am requesting dry erase lapboards and dry erase markers for my students to utilize in a variety of ways in our classroom. We use lapboards often - but having a dry erase component would allow them to practice important skills again and again.

One of my classroom goals is to give my students fun ways to practice writing and thinking without worksheets.

These lapboards would do just the trick as students could think through math work, practice handwriting, construct sentences and answer questions with pictures and words. Using dry erase boards would give them the freedom to take risks and make mistakes as they learn and would allow them to easily share their thinking with each other as they discuss their thought process in their work.
