Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love learning about new topics but when it comes to writing, they don't share this same enthusiasm. My goal is to be able to find new and exciting ways to get them motivated to become better writers. Giving options for writing is essential for differentiated learners.

I teach a group of rambunctious 7 and 8 year old students in the Bronx.

They are curious, inquisitive and love coming to school each day. They live in an area in the Bronx that has a lot of poverty and most students receive free or reduced lunch. But despite these circumstances, they come to school with a good attitude everyday and crave new and fun ways to learn. I am always looking for new ways to engage them and motivate them to improve, especially in writing. Students in our school are mostly English language learners and require many different resources and aids to help them reach their writing goals.

My Project

If I receive these much needed resources, I can imagine my students wanting to become more involved in writing. Students will use them during whole class instruction as well as during writing center time. They will be able to properly form their letters, write complete sentences and even participate in fun writing games and activities. They will learn conventions of writing as well as how to edit and revise their work before eventually publishing their writing pieces. Students will be eager to use the new materials and improve their writing.

These donations will improve my classroom in that I will finally have other options and resources available to me to help me reach my diverse learners.

My students will appreciate a more exciting spin on their writing instructions and be more engaged with the writing process. This will in turn help them be more prepared for the state testing writing requirements when they get to 3rd grade. Writing will finally be something they look forward to!
