Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine if every piece of paper that you dealt with everyday was mixed into one big pile with those of all of your colleagues? Well, that's what it's like in my classroom!

My students are four years-old, and this is their first year in school!

They are adorable, eager to learn, and thrilled to have so many exciting things to do each day. My enthusiasm and pride in seeing these inner city children, all from homes that are below poverty-level, come so eagerly to school each day, and care so sweetly for each other regardless of ethnic diversity, is humbling. Unfortunately, our school, which is over 100 years old, was not built to meet the needs of a Pre-K classroom!

My Project

My students need a Heavy-Duty Sign-In Communication Center so they can have a designated place in the classroom where they can store their work. Basic organization is fundamental to a high functioning classroom, and 4-year-olds definitely need a specific, consistent place that they can independently access to support their first experience in learning to be organized. Presently we do not have anything in our room that can satisfy this need.

Since so many of my students live in apartments that are shared by multiple families, being organized is nearly impossible.

That is why learning to keep things in order is a new skill to learn, and one that I would like to introduce in my classroom. I am so grateful for your generosity by helping to furnish our classroom with a Communication Center.
