Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Walking is a simple, free, and easy way to get more active and healthier! Tracking steps is an accessible way to monitor physical activity levels, which can be motivating to move more, set achievable goals, and ultimately improve overall health. Improved physical activity during the day at school has been consistently linked to improved attention and mood, reduced stress, and lower rates of depression. Our autistic students experience the world differently from their neurotypical peers. These differences influence the way they interact with others, as well as the way they think, feel, and experience the world around them. Autistic teens and adults are statistically more likely to be overweight or obese than their neurotypical peers and are more likely to be sedentary. This can lead to other health issues, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. We would like to incorporate walking pedometers during the school day to help teach our students all the amazing benefits of walking and tracking steps in managing self-care routines. This addition can lead to improved physical stamina, emotional and physical health, and promote positive extracurricular activities and lifestyle enhancements for our students as they prepare for life after school.
