I am a librarian at a Pre-K through 5, high-need elementary school. We have a wonderful, curious population of students who love to look at, read, and listen to books, but some of our students don't have any books at home.
We are lucky to have a spacious library as the physical hub of our school, but our books are old, and many are falling apart. The average age of the books in our collection is 1979! We have many books that date back to the 1950s.
I have a small budget, which I use to purchase books to support the curriculum, as well as a few fiction titles each year. My students love new books! There is often a long wait for the new books, and the students love to read series fiction.
I would like to get more book series for the children. Once they read one book in a series, they often want to read them all. The children talk about the books and the characters, and recommend the books to each other. I see struggling readers pushing themselves to read the same book series as their classmates - increasing their vocabulary, growing their confidence, and expanding their world.
I am requesting several series of fiction at different reading levels. These books are from well-reviewed series that are most requested by the children. These book series will grab my students' attention, and get them (and keep them!) hooked on reading.
Your generous support will put new, high-interest fiction books into the hands of my students. Please help me help my students grow into lifelong readers and learners.
